First off is Flax. On the corner of Market and Valencia Street it is possibly the biggest art shop I have ever been in.They had a huge collection of Japanese paper, in fact all papers, pens, folders, paints...the list could go on forever! I did get a few bits from here and I will tell you all about them on a later post but if you are creative and you are going to San Francisco this place is a must!
I will always prefer a little independent shop to a chain but you can't deny the brilliance of Paper Source. Not only did they have a huge selection of cards from some great companies (many of which I hadn't heard of before) but they also have a rainbow of different coloured postcards, cards and envelopes in every size. There are 2 shops in San Francisco and we visited both, leaving with bag of goodies from each.

The final store was Union Street Papery. Hidden away down in a gorgeous courtyard, this independent store again had a great selection of cards and custom made products. From what I could tell they had a studio space above the shop and I'll admit to being slightly jealous of the set up. Umm one day......one day!
